The new Braun series 5 5090cc is surely a nice electric razor retaining all the great features of its predecessors. But is this the right shaver if you are looking for an upgrade? Well, that will depend on what you are looking for but this one sure looks like a winner. What you can expect from the new series 5 is a stronger motor and independent foil movement for better performance without compromising on skin comfort. If you are worried about how to get a close shave or the Problem shaving neck area, then this shaver is the answer.
The new PowerDrive supplies 20% more motor power than the older models. This actually makes the shaver more efficient in shaving including high speed cutting on dense hair. The new series 5 uses 52S cassette and that is a CrossHair blade design to give optimum closeness. This foil should have no problem cutting the shortest stubble or capturing stubborn hair in different directions.
However, it lacks the Optifoil feature of Braun series 7 which is considered as the most advanced foil from Braun. If you like Optifoil known to cut hair deeper for perfect closeness, the new Braun series 5 5090cc might not be an ideal choice. My gut feeling is that series 7 will feature a stronger motor. Moreover, it’s unlikely that Braun will sell a series 5 that is better a shaver than series 7.
Yet, there are people who would love this shaver. The fact that it might not be as good as series 7 is only marginally important to them. What is even more appealing is also the price tag. It is more affordable than series 7 and a lot many people might end up picking this shaver.
The new series 5 also comes with extra bells and whistles. Of course, this won’t really add to the performance of the shaver but it counts for conveniences. Just like the series 5 5070cc the shaver includes Clean & Charge station with one additional action to intelligently select cleaning program. It has 5 level battery displays along with hygiene indicator and travel lock.
